How local transcription works
A complete on-device voice pipeline built for Apple Silicon.
Every Apple Silicon Mac is purpose-built for on-device machine learning. Enzo uses that hardware acceleration to run its voice engine directly on your device, with no GPU server, no cloud round-trip and no external processor.
Setup downloads about 630 MB of speech models: about 520 MB for dictation and 110 MB more for telling voices apart in meetings. Once they are installed, dictation, recording and transcription work offline, with nothing to configure. Chat and other AI features use Enzo’s cloud AI and need a connection.
Enzo makes no network requests for transcription. Your audio goes from the microphone to the voice engine to text, all within your Mac. You can verify this with any network monitoring tool.

Does Enzo really work without internet?
Yes. Once its speech models are downloaded, Enzo dictates, records and transcribes without an internet connection, on your Mac with Apple Silicon acceleration. Audio never leaves your Mac. Chat and other AI features need a connection.
How does local transcription compare to cloud services?
On an M4 Mac, Enzo turns six minutes of dictation into text in about three seconds, faster than most cloud services once you count the upload. Its on-device voice engine delivers accuracy comparable to leading cloud services, in English. The main advantage is privacy: your audio never leaves your device.
Is offline transcription as accurate as cloud-based?
Enzo uses a custom on-device voice pipeline built and tested for Apple silicon. It handles accents, technical terms and natural speech while keeping both dictation and meetings on your Mac.
Where is my data stored?
All transcriptions and audio recordings are stored on your Mac in Enzo’s Application Support folder, and you can set how long audio and transcripts are kept. Enzo does not sync or back them up. When you ask Chat about a recording, only the excerpts that question needs are sent to Enzo’s cloud AI, and meeting notes send the transcript. Enzo’s service keeps none of it, and the AI provider keeps it only briefly to check for abuse.
Can I use Enzo on a plane or without Wi-Fi?
Yes. Once installed, Enzo works anywhere: on flights, in secure facilities, in remote locations, or anywhere without internet access. All processing happens on your Mac’s hardware.
