A MacWhisper alternative built for live work.

Unlimited free voice typing · 10-day Pro trial · No account or card.
Respect first, then the difference.
MacWhisper deserves its following. It brought serious local transcription to the Mac, and as a workbench for audio and video files it's genuinely good: drag in a recording, pick a model, get a transcript. Both apps keep your audio on your machine, and both are a one-time purchase, so this isn't a privacy story or a subscription story.

Where Enzo is different
Unlimited free voice typing
Speak into the Mac apps you already use. Starter has no word limit or expiry, and keeps your recordings, transcripts, playback, search, and tags.
Help throughout your day
Ask a question, attach a document, use your current screen, or draft a follow-up. Local AI is included in Pro.
Meetings you can revisit
Pro records meeting audio on your Mac without a bot. Keep the transcript with separate speaker labels, ask about it, or create a summary.
Recall is your choice
Opt in to keep permitted work context. Today’s timeline and earlier-day overviews are free. Pro adds full retained context, search, and daily briefs.
Local by default
Transcription and Recall collection run on your Mac. Local AI works offline after setup. Optional cloud answers send selected text to the provider you enable.
Pro for $39 once
Meetings and local AI for one active Mac, transferable, with future updates included. Try Pro for 10 days with intentional Pro use. Optional cloud provider charges are separate.
Built for live work
Nothing to import and nothing to export. The words go straight to where you were typing.
Solo Mode pastes your words straight at the cursor.
Works with any app that has a cursor.
Side by side
As of June 2026. Check macwhisper.com for their current pricing and features.
What MacWhisper does better
Files are its home turf
Drag in interviews, podcasts, lectures, video, whole folders, even YouTube links. If your week is a backlog of recordings to transcribe, MacWhisper is the right workbench, and Enzo doesn't try to be one.
More export formats and extras
Subtitle and document export formats, batch processing, AI summaries through local or API models. The power-user surface is genuinely larger.
Two permanent free options
MacWhisper's free version works indefinitely with smaller models. Enzo Starter keeps Solo, recordings in Speak, Recall collection, today's timeline, and past-day overviews free after the Pro trial ends.
If your transcription work is a folder of files, stay with the workbench, honestly. If it's the meetings and messages of a working day, that's the job I built Enzo for.
Questions
What stays free in Enzo?
Unlimited voice typing, saved recordings and transcripts, playback, search, and tags across all saved days. Live Solo text is free with its optional component. Recall is opt-in and includes today’s full timeline and earlier-day overviews. Starter has no word limit or expiry.
What does Pro add?
Pro includes meetings with speaker identification, local AI for recordings, documents, your current screen, and Recall, plus summaries, rewritten notes, email drafts, and daily briefs. It adds full retained Recall history and context search. Pro is $39 once for one active Mac, transferable, with future updates included. Optional cloud provider billing is separate.
When does the Pro trial start?
The 10-day trial starts with intentional use of a Pro feature. Setup and model downloads do not count. No card or account is needed. Voice typing stays free afterward, and saved recordings and generated results remain readable.
What stays on my Mac, and what can use the internet?
Transcription, speaker recognition, and Recall collection run on your Mac. Ask uses Local by default. If you choose DeepSeek Flash with your own API key, your question, recent conversation, and selected text context go directly to DeepSeek. That text can include excerpts from recordings, Recall, documents, and your screen. Raw audio, files, screenshots, and images are not uploaded by that request. Optional web research sends a public query directly to a search provider and retrieves selected sources. License checks, downloads, updates, and optional analytics also use the internet.
How is recording history different from Recall?
Saved recordings stay accessible in Speak across all saved days, including on Starter. Recall is a separate, optional timeline of permitted work context. Starter shows today’s full timeline and earlier-day overviews; Pro adds detailed retained history, context search, and AI. Recall retention is adjustable on every plan and defaults to 30 days.
